The Alleghany Clubhouse Program
The Alleghany Clubhouse Program is a psycho-social rehabilitation program for adults with serious mental health challenges. Rather than being deemed "clients" or "patients," participants in the program are considered members of the clubhouse, and restorative activities are recovery-focused and center on their strengths and abilities, not their illnesses.
Members work side-by-side with staff, performing all the necessary tasks in the day-to-day operations of the clubhouse. Living and social skills improvement is a main focus of the program. From learning independent living skills and pre-vocational skill development to building self-esteem through group activities and "work units," the Clubhouse Program provides members an opportunity to contribute in significant and meaningful ways. One major effect of the program has been to reduce admissions to psychiatric hospitals as a result of the daily structure and supervision provided by the program. |
